I’ve learned in my life that reading is different for everyone. Some people enjoy reading and can not get enough, others hate reading and do the minimum just to get by. But reading has become a necessity in today’s society. I did not learn how to read until I was in third grade, and I thank my third grade teacher for putting up with my slow and under level reading habits. My mother focused more on teaching me math and how to print so teachers would be able to read my writing. Although I did not enjoy reading until I was a sophomore in high school, I managed to reach the correct reading level by sixth grade and did not struggle much in jr. high. I later learned that I wasn’t a bad reader at all, that many my age struggled as much as I did if not more. My spelling, however, was and still is in need of major improvement, I believe it was because of my lack of reading skills as a younger child.
My grandpa loved to read. He was the only person I knew to read the newspaper front to back, and several different ones of the same day. Reading was not encouraged much in my family since my mom didn’t read much herself. I only read in school until my friends introduced me to Japanese comic books. I was hooked on them ever since then.
I believe the reason why I never got into reading much was because I lost interest. Everything I was reading was boring in school. The comic books were entertaining and fast, so I kept interest. I then found Fahrenheit 451,the Giver, Catcher in the Rye, Go ask Alice, and 1984 and fell in love with those books. I enjoyed reading for once in my life. I noticed I like books I can relate to. Books that are “easy read” are ones I enjoy and keep interest.

I agree with you about how people are different that some like to read and others not because I have seen that too.I also learned how to read when I was kind of older I learned to read until I was in forth grade.I agree with you because I think that if kids don't see their parents reading they think is not important. That was good that you found something that made you like reading. Your kind of like me I read things thant interest me.
ReplyDeleteI agree that reading is a necessity for our society, because that's how we communicate with each other.
ReplyDeleteI can relate into never really liking to read at all when i was growing up expect when I was a kid.
When you said you found these books to read, Fahrenheit 451,the Giver, Catcher in the Rye, Go ask Alice, and 1984. I am glad to see you found books you actually liked. Also when you said people enjoy reading the minimum to get by I am the same way and I don’t want to have to read anymore than required. I am glad to see you later realized you are not a bad reader. I have a personal connection to this as well, in third grade was when I learned to and my teacher helped me allot but I struggled a lot to learn. I agree with when you said you like to read books you can relate to and are easy I am the same way.
ReplyDeleteI have a personal connection to the part when you said you enjoyed Japanese comic books. Comic books are easy to read so I enjoyed it as well as you. You were very lucky to have a teacher like that to encourage you to read. I am sure you will never forget about her. How did you feel when you first figured out that you were not a bad reader? It is hard to start read, but once you started and get interested on your reading, you will enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteI agree thet reading helps with spelling skills. I suck at spelling and didnt read much at all when i was little. Funny to thet you used comics to help you i did the same. I liked how you mentioned your grandpa and reading couse thats all mine dose now. Ever since he moved and dosnt have a golf corse right out back anyway.
ReplyDeleteI agreed with you when you said that only some people enjoy reading and other just try to do as little to get by it. When I was younger no one really help me on reading, the only one that helps me on reading was my teacher as well. Most of the books that you enjoyed reading were the book that I didn’t like. But I heard that the book Go Ask Alice was a really good book; I have always wanted to read that book but I am just to lazy to read. Reading is for sure not one of my hobbies.
ReplyDeleteI liked this because I'd never liked reading when I was a younger child. It all changed when I read a japanese comic book or manga. I can't even remember the first manga book that I read because that was long time ago. However the first comic book that I read was Daredevil.
